Educational School Visits

Zippity Zoo is available to bring the fun of the farm to you in the Wellington, Hutt Valley, Kapiti Coast, Horowhenua, Palmerston North and Whanganui area.schoolsnap

Zippity Zoo is a mobile farm that comes direct to your school to provide a hands-on, educational experience for your students. Teachers now have the easy, inexpensive option of a farm visit just outside the classroom door - or even inside if it's raining.

The friendly animals, including goats, sheep, guinea pigs, rabbits and chickens, miniature pony/ or donkey (depending on mood of the day of the animals) arrive in their own purpose built truck, and are happy to be fed and stroked. Lambs and calves may also visit in the spring. The children are able to learn first hand, using their senses to find out about these creatures.

A visit from Zippity Zoo is a great way to enrich your students' science learning. There are many aspects of the Living World strand that can be incorporated into our farm visit, and we can tailor the session to your specific requirements.

tractorPossible topics for schools might include:

  • Diversity of living creatures
  • Parts of an animal
  • Structure and function
  • The seasons
  • Growth and reproduction
  • Care of animals

Contact me now to introduce a new dimension to your curriculum. We are also available for school gala's and family oriented events.

school visit to discuss chicken and the eggs

CHICKEN EDUCATION

A number of schools and kindergartens borrowed my egg incubator during winter / spring. In some cases not all the eggs hatched but we had fun learning all about the chickens development. It was very exciting when a chick did hatch out of the little batch of eggs.

TRIP TO CENTRAL NORMAL SCHOOL

(Spring 2010)

Story by Tai

Zippity Zoo came to Central Normal School and it was SPECTACULAR!! I loved te guinea pigs because they were cute and fluffy like a kitten. Maggie had to feel her way around because she was blind. The sheep has eyes on the side of his head and he could only look to the side. It was funny when Farmer Bee hypnotised the rabbit and sent him to Dreamland where the grass is as tall as his ears and carrots float across the sky like a shooting star. The hen wanted to lay an egg and the rooster kept saying cookadoodleydoo! and then the hen laid an egg. My favourite animal was the guinea pigs because when I fed it a carrot it vibrated. Thank you for coming to Central Normal Farmer B.

The sheep was incredible. I like Zippity Zoo. I'm sorry Maggie you're blind. My favourite animal was the sheep.

Zippity Zoo visited Central Normal School. My favourite animals were the guinea pigs because they were cute and fluffy. It was enjoyable watching the rabbit being hypnotised by Farmer Bee. The goat had very sharp horns on its head.

Story by Steven

Zippity Zoo came to Central Normal School. There was a goat. The goat was bucking the cage the lambs were in, and the lambs were not happy at all. The goat got its horns stuck in the cage and it went buck, buck, buck. Finally the goat got her horns out of the cage.

Zippity Zoo came to school. The animals were a goat, sheep, lambs, hen, rooster, rabbit, 4 guinea pigs and kid goats. The hen laid an egg it was nice and warm. The goats horns were very very hard. The kid goats and lambs were very cute. The one I liked the most was the big rabbit because it was soft and cute.

Zippity Zoo came to visit Central Normal School. I liked feeding the animals. The best bit was when the Farmer hypnotised the rabbit. It was funny when the rooser jumped out of his cage. The Guinea pig looked cute. When I patted the guinea pig they felt like a bolt of lightning because it was shaking because it was scared of all the children.

STORIES FROM ROSENEATH VISIT (Summer 2008)

Hi I’m Jack the rabbit. I live in Zippity Zoo. It’s really fun here and the thing I’m living with (I think it’s called an u-man) is really nice to me. Even though I wasn’t supposed to be born she still loves me. I never knew my dad because my mum was a bit naughty and she escaped her cage and bred with some wild rabbits and that’s when I came along with my three sisters. At Zippity Zoo I have lots of friends like Lemonhead and also Poppy. There’s also Toby, Toffeepop and another I think its jersey pig. The other day I went to a place called Roseneath sc-hool. The ride was really scary because it was my first time going in a wheely van. There were lots of noises and I have really sensitive ears so I got a headache. Once we finally got there I saw the light for the first time in what seemed like so many u-man years. Then I was lifted out of my cage. There were lots of baby u-mans and they were all really nice. They really respected that my mum and I have rally sensitive ears and they were quiet. My mum was hypnotised which made me sort of uncomfortable because I thought that the u-man was going to do it to me. Then the head u-man packed us into the wheely van and we headed home. That was the best day in my life.

Hi, I'm Toffee Pop the guinea pig. At Zippity-Zoo everyone looks after me really well. Before we went on this crazy trip to Woseneath wool, I was just playing with Tessa, my sister when Beverly picked me and Tessa up and crammed us in a little cage together then shoved the cage into the truck. When we were inside I was really scared because it was dark and quite cold too. Then I noticed that Cloudy, and her son Jack, I tried calling out to them but they were both fast asleep, soon I found that I was too. When I awoke I was being carried onto a hard looking ground, when I was on the ground lots of umen-things stared at the cage, I decided to scan the area, there was a giant building thing and a stone wall, in the cage next to me I saw Jack, he must be sooo scared I thought. After awhile a umen-thing came and picked me up and brought me inside the building thing. After awhile of being inside the building thing I got taken out of my cage and passed around in a smelly old hat like a parcel the only good thing about this was that they gave me a carrot to nibble on, and then I fell asleep. When I woke up I woke up I was back at Zippity Zoo. Yippee!

Hi, I’m Lucky Clucky and before I lived in Zippity Zoo I was a caged hen laying eggs but it was very sad because all the other hens pecked at me and that left patches on my back but then Beverly the farmer came and took me away and made me more healthier and fit than ever and I’m glad that I’m here with a new family of hens.

WHAT IS LIFE WAS LIKE AT ZIPPY ZOO?

Well, for starters I lay eggs for Beverly and it is very fun. Also I am the leader of the hens and I always get up early and tomorrow I don’t know what the other hens will do without me but I’m sure they’ll be fine! I hope, and also on the farm I fly about checking that everything is alright.

THE TRIP TO ROSNEATH.

Well, the trip to Roseneath School was very exciting but scary at the same time. When we first got there one of the children carried me into the hall. Then Beverly took me out of my cage and held me in her arms, I looked around there were so many children I felt as if I wanted to fly away but I couldn’t.

After that the children came and pat me it felt like having a massage. Later on I went back into the cage and into the truck and then we went home. I thought how fun it was and that I wanted to go back there next year.
